Anthropic is set to enhance its AI chatbot, Claude, with official US voting information and election results ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections. Announced on October 14, this update aims to provide US users with reliable information on voting procedures and to counter election-related misinformation.
The chatbot will leverage data from Democracy Works, a nonprofit organization that aggregates voting information from state and local election authorities. This means when users inquire about voting procedures, Claude will access this comprehensive database to deliver accurate and relevant details.
The update is scheduled to be available to US users by the end of October, just in time for the upcoming elections. Additionally, Anthropic plans to integrate election results into Claude, enabling users to easily access information about electoral outcomes.
This initiative is part of Anthropic’s broader effort to make Claude a dependable source of election-related information, minimizing the risk of AI misuse during political events. The feature will focus on factual information about voting logistics rather than endorsing candidates or advising users on voting choices.
Anthropic’s analysis of 250,000 US conversations revealed that political discussions, including topics on public policy and social issues, comprise roughly 5.75% of interactions on its consumer platform. Specifically, election-related discussions account for about 0.51% of conversations, while requests for voting recommendations are even less frequent, at approximately 0.01%.
As Election Day nears, the company anticipates an increase in election-related queries. This update aligns with broader efforts by AI companies to enhance the accuracy and reliability of information provided by their platforms during significant political events. The November midterm elections will decide on seats in the US Congress, along with numerous state and local positions, underscoring the importance of accurate voter information.
